Pieces of the Story

The Excerpts

So you fight whatever comes your way, you fight and you fight hard for what you believe. Because that’s what we do, that’s what heroes do. We fight to the end
— Jim Elson (Age of the Kings)

“Heroes” Chapter 38

“We finish this, no matter what. The hospital, that’s where it all started,” Angel began.

“That’s where it ends,” Tagalon finished for him.

Angel walked. Every thought possible crossed his imagination. How was this going to end? He wondered. The journey could end in a million different ways. Angel turned to face his friend. Tagalon stopped and waited for Angel to say something. He didn’t. Angel just reached out and gave Tagalon a hug. Tagalon didn’t know what to do but hug him back. Angel backed up.

“Let’s do this,” Angel spoke with confidence.

“Together.” Tagalon put his hand on Angel’s shoulder. Angel smiled and headed for the hospital.

“Time is Running Out” Chapter 9

Angel made it out of the burning land, and fell on a steep hill of burning rocks. He was weak, too weak to move. The air was still hot. He was starting to have trouble breathing! He needed help, and fast! Unfortunately, it would be of no use. Angel was fatally and critically injured. It would take one of God’s miracles to heal him! Angel saw hot lava flowing down the hill toward him. He slowly closed his eyes with a smile. He was happy and glad because victory was ahead, glory was ahead, a glorious moment was ahead, Dead Mountain was ahead.

“Blood Twister” Chapter 11

Did he want to be that hero again—the hero that always saved the day? The one that always won the girls, that did not stop until justice was served? Jim thought, and then lept to the side and pressed the red button. Penn and Reynolds hurried out of the room and watched as Jim disappeared in the colorful flash. Jim was going after his son. He was the good and the light. He was the hero of the story.

“A Deep Dive in the Deep Sea” Chapter 30

The water was cold, and the ocean was dark. Angel just followed the rope. He pulled hard on it and accelerated as he swam downwards. Angel flicked his headlamp on, and the ocean was illuminated. He had forgotten about the sharks until something rough brushed against his back. Angel moaned, but he remembered what Tagalon told him to do, keep swimming. So Angel kept swimming. His hands began to get numb and his cheeks icy. Angel was trying as best as possible to keep the air in his lungs, unfortunately, little by little it was slipping out. Angel began to run out of air. After about two minutes, He was out of air. He tried not to panic as he felt the sharks bumping into him. Fortunately, the sub came into view. It was enormous, probably larger than the Queen Mary in length. Angel began to turn red as his lungs burned and clawed for air.

“Night of Fright” Chapter 1

The cobwebs extended across the concrete ceiling of the room and rats ran across his feet as he inched his way forward. He wanted it to be over, but it was all just beginning. In the center of the dark room was an enormous metal sphere. At least five times larger than him. One light shined upon the sphere just enough for Angel to make out a large red button on the center of the sphere. It was roughly the size of his hand. On the button, a fossilized head of a Tyrannosaurus Rex was painted on it. Angel reached over to press the button. It clicked as he pressed it and then a funnel of bright colorful flashes surrounded Angel and in a moment, the boy was gone

“A New World Waiting” Chapter 12

His team caught up with him. Suddenly, there was another loud sonic boom. The portal—it was still open! However, something was wrong. An army of highly qualified soldiers were coming in through the portal: planes, tanks, rovers, jeeps and other military vehicles were coming in. Angel looked in terror. “They haven’t come to rescue me, they’ve come to have war.”

“Apocalyptic War” Chapter 18

They all stared at each other. Penn pulled out a gun and aimed it at Kelly. Reynolds also pulled out a gun and aimed it at Kelly. Kelly’s eyes widened. “Just say it.” Penn was getting impatient. Kelly clenched her fists. Was it true?... Kelly narrowed her eyes. She was tired and exhausted. She just wanted the nightmare to be over. Both men loaded their guns. Kelly still hesitated. Finally, the triggers were pulled

“Beyond the Mask” Chapter 42

He walked out into the hallway and down the stairs. Angel opened the door to his sister’s room. Natalia was sitting on her bed. He sat next to her. They stared at the wall in silence. “He’s in a better place.” Angel sighed attempting to console his sister.

Natalia shook her head. “No. No he’s not,” she responded. Angel gulped.

“We have to be strong—for Dad,” Angel said. Natalia looked at him.

“After all we’ve been through, you think we haven’t been strong enough? I think that’s not fair! Take it back!” Natalia shoved Angel.

“I think we just need to hold ourselves together, sis,” Angel said. Angel sat up. He headed for the door. He took a quick glance back at his mourning sister. Then he exited the room as he headed back upstairs to his room.

“Tagalon” Chapter 39

“I have to cut the leg!” Kelly yelled.

Madison shook her head yelling, and swearing. “Don’t touch my leg! Go to hell! Go to hell! Please! Don’t let me die! Don’t cut!” Madison sobbed.

“If I don’t and that door rips off, it could cause worse nerve damage!” Kelly yelled. Suddenly, the sail tore through the truck in half ripping the door open along with the leg. Kelly fell to the water barely wary of her surroundings. Karis let herself sink as she lost her strength and her will to keep pushing forward. Kelly saw the sail slicing toward her but then before the dinosaur could snatch her, an explosion blew a hole on the side of the beast forcing it to charge back out of the water and into the woods.
